Tips for Location, Building Permits and Furnishing

Installing a greenhouse in your garden not only allows you to grow all year round, but can also create an extra room to enjoy. Here are some important factors to consider before you get started.

Location:
To maximize both sun and ventilation, you should place the greenhouse in a well-drained location that is protected from strong winds. Consider placing the greenhouse with the gable facing south to get maximum sunlight, but consider shading it slightly during the hottest hours of the day. A flat and stable base simplifies installation, and with Grohus tunnel greenhouses you can often get away without needing a foundation, saving both time and money.

Building permits:
Do you need a building permit for your greenhouse? It depends on the size and location. Under the Friggebod rule, you can build a greenhouse of up to 15 square meters without a building permit, as long as it is at least 4.5 meters from the property line. If the greenhouse is larger than that, or if you place it closer to the property line, you may need to apply for a building permit or notification depending on the rules in your municipality.

Design and function:
Think about how you want to use your greenhouse and plan the design accordingly. Growing beds, pathways and perhaps a planting table will create both order and a functional workspace. Once you know what to grow, you can also find the right accessories, such as growing beds and irrigation systems, to optimize your cultivation.
